The Devil Doctor's Spicy Love

Chapter 492: Guest status

Chapter 492: Guest status

The drive to the Bureau was filled with an impenetrable silence. His birthday is tomorrow!!! And I still haven’t thought of a gift.

This is bad. This is so bad. Is the only option I have left with me is a naked Jia tied in a ribbon?

The mere thought made her shudder.

Anything but that!

Realizing her mind wandering off the road, she steadied her thoughts and glanced at Mingshen - who, for some reason, was scanning the police car as if his eyes were embedded with X-Ray.

"Um, are you looking for something?"

"This car is so colorless."

"..."

I never understand the random concerns he arrives at out of the blue.

"This is a police car, Mingshen. Why do you expect it to be colorful?"

Mingshen paused. "Huh. So what if it had been your car?"

He leaned to the driver, aka, Jia’s side, his voice hushing as if revealing an untold secret. "What would your car look like?"

Jia leaned forward to match his energy and whispered. "Why are we speaking like this?"

"This is sexier."

She rolled her eyes.

"I am asking a serious question."

"About my car? I think it would look normal," she shrugged.

His eyes narrowed. "Nothing in particular? For example...what kind of a car would you want?"

"I don’t want a car. Feels too big of a responsibility. Public transport is good."

He frowned. "Public transport is cheap."

"Thank you for reminding me I am poor, Dr. Yang."

"How are you poor when I have always been standing right beside you the entire time? It hurts me that you forgot your grand birthday celebration, organized by yours truly!"

Jia coughed.

The overflowing expenditure of money that nearly killed me...

She raised a brow. "So I am rich now?"

"Do you doubt that the Yang mansion is yours?"

Her eyes widened. "I mean...I am staying there as a guest. It would be extremely rude to ascertain my rights over your house."

"Huh?" He threw her a blank look. "Hold on! Is that what you have been thinking all this time!"

She blinked twice, taken aback by his shock. "I think I didn’t put it that well. I know Uncle and Aunt treat me like family and nothing makes me happier, but...it’s also difficult to not feel like a stranger imposing myself at times."

His gaze darkened. "After all the bodily functions we have explored, you still think you are a stranger!?"

"..."

"Mingshen! I am warning you, do not speak like that in the Bureau or you will have a serious taste of my heels!"

"I don’t care. I thought you were happy at home," his black eyes looked darker than usual.

"Of course I am happy at your home! I-"

"Our home," he snapped. "Why do you keep calling it just mine?

"...My stay is only supposed to be temporary," she scratched her chin lightly. "I moved in because..well, I was in a bad state of mind," turning the steering wheel to the left, she continued, "And living with you all really, truly helped me so much. I would have collapsed if not for you. Thanks to you all, I feel so much better now."

Huh, wait a minute...

"So...what I am saying is..."

Isn’t this as good as saying that it’s time for me to leave?

"What are you trying to say, Spicy?" a dangerous edge was laced to his voice.

"Um..."

Despite the blasting air conditioner, sweat trickled down the side of her ear as a tremendous source of heat seemed to engulf her from the side.

Damn it, Mingshen is definitely mad now!

"What I am trying to say is...oh look! We reached the Bureau!"

The car came to a sudden jolt and she breathed out. She was about to hop out of the car when a strained grip pressed upon her wrist.

"We are not done talking yet, Spicy. What were you trying to say before?"

Ugh...the weather forecast doesn’t look good. Somebody help me please...

"Heyyyyy my bestieeeee!!!"

Her eyes widened and she saw Huojin approaching them in the distance.

I have never felt like hugging him more than before!

To Jia, Huojin appeared like an angel. With a goofy grin on his lips.

To Mingshen, Huojin appeared like his nemesis. With an evil smile across his lips.

"Heyyy, what’s up with you two~? Do I see the morning-after glow~?" He winked.

He was quick to realize the tension in the air.

"What? The morning-after glow has already vanished, haha?"

Silence.

Why is it so awkward?

Jia held his shoulders. "Great to meet you, Huojin!"

He stared at her unblinkingly.

"Jia...a-are you dying?"

"..."

"Greeting me with such vigor and joy..." tears brimmed his eyes. "Is something wrong with you?"

"Shut up. Don’t be so dramatic."

The intense heat on her back continued to burn her unforgivingly with a certain devil’s squinted and questioning gaze.

"...Anywayyyy, need to run. You must have definitely skipped work, didn’t you? I will have to sort out your mess."

"Hey! What is this blatant accusation early in the morning-"

"Bye!"

Huojin watched her become the wind.

"Wow. I knew Jia was fast, but this fast?"

He then glanced at Mingshen. "Why do you look in a sour mood? I thought I would see flowers floating around your head. Or maybe a whole garden," he grinned. "Things have definitely spiced up between you two~"

Mingshen stayed silent for a long time.

Huojin sighed. "What’s up? Come on, you two couldn’t already be fighting."

"We are not fighting," he frowned.

"Tell that to the creases on your forehead. Probably, it’s not an official fight but it seems you are definitely upset about something."

He darted his gaze to the side once, then returned to Huojin.

"Spicy says she feels like a stranger at home. After all the time we spent together and with Mom and Dad. And based on the last conversation we had just two minutes ago, it seemed as if she was implying she wants to leave."

Ouch. That must hurt, he thought.

Huojin lazily folded his arms on the car’s roof and leaned against the door.

"Well, does she have any reason to stay?"

"Do you want me to commit a murder in broad daylight right now?"

He chuckled. "So sensitive. Calm down. It doesn’t look like it, but I am on your side, you know? Both of you. Anyway, you know how Jia is. Very reserved, very thoughtful. Definitely far from arrogant."

"I know that."

"So why do you think she would assume she would have some kind of a permanent right at staying in your mansion if you two aren’t even in an official relationship?"
