Chapter 1072: A Demonic Zodiac
Chapter 1072: A Demonic Zodiac
Chapter 1072
The moment Thalos staggered backward, therefore allowing them to see what he saw, all the hairs rose on their bodies.
This was no human—well, they had already figured that out a while ago, but still.
Crack! Crack! Shatter!
With just a single tug of his feet, he was able to break free from the chains that bound him to the ground.
All of it was accomplished with minimal effort.
Grabbing the baggy robe he wore, he tore it off completely to reveal his full form.
Standing before them was a creature like no other.
The entity loomed like a nightmare given flesh, towering far above any mortal man.
Its eyes burned with an unnatural crimson glow, each one as large as a human head, piercing through the darkness with predatory intelligence and unquenchable hunger.
A long snout jutted forward, lined with rows of massive, razor-sharp canines designed to tear through flesh and bone as if they were mere parchment.
Black fur covered its entire body, sleek and fine enough along the powerful torso, bulging forearms, and chiseled abs to reveal the rippling muscles beneath, yet thick and wild around the neck and face.
A majestic yet savage mane framed its throat and spilled down its back like a dark, bushy lion’s ruff, giving the beast an almost regal ferocity.
Its hands and feet ended in enormous claws, curved and deadly, capable of rending steel or stone with casual ease.
The overall form was that of a perfectly evolved wolf-like predator—broad-shouldered, heavily muscled, and radiating raw, demonic power that made the air itself feel heavier in its presence.
It moved with a fluid, terrifying grace, every inch the embodiment of primal death and untamed fury.
"Uh... What-What is this? What do we call this th—" Raze trailed off as he caught sight of a number gleaming within one of the creature’s crimson eyes.
A bold number "2."
Kael’s gaze sharpened immediately as he recalled where he had seen a number like this before.
"Demon..." He was beaten to the statement by Rivock, whose own gaze sharpened instantly.
All the people who stood there right now had encountered a demon on different occasions, and in those instances, Grey had always helped in taking them down.
These same numbers that could be seen either on their foreheads or primarily within their eyes were a signal, a mark of their exact rank.
This creature in front of them was not only Upper Zodiac One, he was also Upper Echelon Two in the demon ranking system.
The strongest Zodiac and the second strongest demon, all combined into one creature.
Now they finally understood why he didn’t interfere earlier; he had deemed them far too unworthy to notice.
They were all in deep trouble, and they knew it. Even Rivock, who was usually incredibly cocky, realized he couldn’t afford to let his guard down for even a fraction of a second.
The last time they had faced Lower Echelon Ten in the coliseum, a lot of people lost their lives, and he had almost lost his as well.
Grey had also nearly lost his life back then, since he wasn’t nearly as powerful as he currently is now.
Yet, he had thrown everything he had toward that opponent before they finally managed to kill it.
Now they had just been shot straight up the ladder with this massive threat that stood firmly before them, smiling devilishly with all its razor-sharp fangs on full display.
This time around, Grey was not with them to balance the scales.
They were completely alone, weakened, and not nearly as strong as they should be to defeat a colossal threat like this.
"Hang on..." Raze shouted as he pointed toward the giant entity with a deep frown on his face.
".... Doesn’t this arrangement seem all too odd to you all?"
Greg scowled at the fire mage. "Meaning?"
"I mean their rankings. The Otherworlders have the exact same ranking structure as the demons. The only real difference is the ’Zodiac’ and ’Echelon’ titles. Aside from that...."
"... Well, I think it’s completely obvious that they have direct connections with the demons," Viktor replied with a severe frown.
Scarlet’s brows furrowed deeply as she cast a quick, discerning glance toward the unmoving body of Zodiac Ten—Vince.
She then looked back at the massive demon again, with bright flames blazing around her hands.
"Ah... this will be incredibly hard," Rivock commented, swiftly creating a fresh pair of glowing Ki swords in his hands.
They were all running dangerously low on energy.
Unfortunately, they wouldn’t be able to use the pills yet, knowing that this threat couldn’t be taken down within the five-minute timeframe given to them by the supplement.
They needed to wear it down first.
Thalos tightened his grip on his greatsword and immediately exploded forward—the soil bending beneath his feet as he closed the distance in the blink of an eye.
His greatsword lashed toward the Zodiac with blazing speed.
A blur.
The Zodiac was now nowhere to be seen, and instead, a cold aura descended on the gargoyle from the side.
A strike was speeding toward his flank with terrible, earth-breaking force.
Kira appeared, her talons gripping the gargoyle as she swiftly bolted away in time, causing the demon’s fist to smash into the empty air with ear-splitting force.
The ground shuddered and exploded ten meters outward from the sheer momentum.
Max descended from above with a huge lightning pillar that hurtled down at the demon. Even with the speed he was coming at, he still looked slow in the creature’s eyes.
The demon’s hand cocked backward, ready to blast Max away, when runes appeared behind the beast with chains bursting forward.
They wrapped around the demon’s elbows, halting him for just a second before he shattered the chains without losing much momentum.
But it gave Max enough time to change direction and allow the lightning pillar to crash into the demon’s rocketing fist in a massive explosion that sent shockwaves flying in all directions.
Whirling around, Max still avoided the strike by the skin of his teeth, as his attack barely moved the creature at all.
The impact crashed into the air with obliterating force, such that even the sound barrier gave way.
They all regrouped with a huff while staring at the creature looking their way with a wide grin on his face.
"My turn."
He was gone as if he had teleported, but it was just his overwhelming speed.
This left the others on guard, completely unsure of who would be attacked first.
"Aaaah!"
