Chapter 1276 - 1275: Someone Reports the Shaw Family by Real Name
After encountering Pearl Landon, Leah had no intention to stay. She left the Virtue Celebration Tower and sent a message to Richard Shaw.
Soon, the man came out from inside. Seeing her standing in the cold wind, he frowned, took off his coat, and said heavily, "Why aren’t you in the car?"
Leah looked up quietly at his resolute chin, feeling a bit down. Her beautiful peach blossom eyes lacked their usual sparkle. Seeing this, the man knitted his brow tightly and gently rubbed her head with his large hand, asking in an unusually soft voice, "What’s wrong?"
"I just saw Pearl Landon. She seems to be having a hard time." Leah said softly, leaning her forehead against his chin and sighing.
Richard Shaw pulled most of her into his arms, sheltering her from the cold wind. His tea-colored eyes showed a hint of contemplation. How could Pearl Landon appear in the Imperial City, especially when Leah was there?
"The Landon Family is not doing well; their days can only be described as barely passable," Richard Shaw said in a low voice, "Did she say anything?"
Leah shook her head. In the months since she regained her memory, she had hardly thought about the Landon Family. Her relationship with them had ended years ago. But seeing Pearl Landon in such a state and learning from Richard that the Landon Family was faring poorly affected her emotions somewhat.
Life’s challenges are faced by everyone. She knew well the nature of the Landon Family—how favors could turn into grievances over time. The Shaw Family had been too good to them back then, which led to their growing audacity and eventual betrayal.
"These years haven’t been easy for you either; don’t worry about irrelevant people and matters." Richard Shaw instructed Zorro to bring the car around. Thinking about Leah’s years of severe injury made his heart ache. The Landon Family hadn’t suffered physical losses, and with diligence, their days wouldn’t be so difficult.
Now that Leah had emerged in the prestigious circles of the Imperial City, the Landon Family’s ghostly presence loomed over her, eager to appear before her. Richard squinted, a flash of coldness appearing in his eyes.
"Hmm." Leah nodded, closing her eyes and leaning gently against Richard Shaw’s chest. The man, cautious, extended his arm slightly, wanting to hold her tighter, yet fearing to disturb this rare moment of peace and tenderness. He maintained his posture, his gaze subtly tender, gesturing quickly when he saw Zorro bringing the car over.
Zorro had just finished his honeymoon, more energetic than ever, greeting everyone with a cheerful smile. Observing the situation, he crouched by the roadside, seemingly eager to stuff the Hummer into his pocket to avoid disturbing the Major General and his wife in their intimate moment.
Because of meeting Pearl Landon, Leah had an unsettling sleep when she returned to the Shaw Mansion. The next morning, her phone rang incessantly just as she awoke, with a call from Griffith Squire coming through.
"Leah, you need to return to the South China Sea immediately." Griffith Squire’s tone was more serious than ever, almost carrying a hint of killing intent.
"What happened?" Leah was fully awake, alarmed.
Griffith Squire articulated deliberately, "Someone has filed a real-name allegation against the Shaw Family."
Leah was shocked, listening as Griffith continued, "It wasn’t me who reported it; I didn’t even get the chance to. This matter is very serious and involves you. Return to the South China Sea immediately and stay out of it."
Leah hurriedly got up, opened the door to the adjacent bedroom, and found Richard Shaw absent. She headed to the study, seeing the man standing with his back to her, speaking into the phone by the floor-to-ceiling window, his voice low and stern, with unprecedented coldness: "Have you identified who the informant is?"
