On the bed, Bai Yiran was still asleep, exhausted from Leng Yichen’s attentions, and when she heard the phone ringing, she merely lifted her eyelids before drifting back to sleep.
Leng Yichen put Bai Yiran’s phone on the bedside table, then returned to the bed, and her body instinctively snuggled into his embrace like a kitten.
He held her, but sleep eluded him.
The next day, everything seemed normal. Leng Yichen did not tell Bai Yiran about the call from Wu Chengzu the previous night, and he even deleted the call record.
He agreed to Wu Chengzu’s request but had no intention of telling Bai Yiran about it. However, whether he would help or how would depend on Wu Chengzu’s actions.
Shortly after they got up, Leng Yichen received a call from Gao Sheng. Wu Chengzu had been caught in a residence in the West City District.
In the early hours, two exposed individuals broke into the local police station, both insisting that the nationwide wanted drug dealer Wu Chengzu was in their home, along with a little girl.
The policemen didn’t dare delay and reported it to their superiors. When the police arrived, Wu Chengzu was sitting on the sofa watching TV, showing no surprise or panic upon seeing them, but rather a hint of relief.
He stood up, turned off the TV with the remote, then raised his hands cooperatively to let the police handcuff him.
Thus, Wu Chengzu was officially apprehended!
Leng Yichen quietly listened to Gao Sheng finish, then asked lightly, "What about Wu Chengzu’s daughter?"
"You mean Wu Jingjing?" Gao Sheng was puzzled by Leng Yichen asking about Wu Jingjing. "She’s already been taken into government care. With all the things piling up on Wu Chengzu, he’s not going to survive, and Wu Jingjing will become an orphan. This is really a headache."
When the police went to arrest Wu Chengzu, Wu Jingjing was sleeping in the room and wasn’t awakened by the noise outside. Later, it was found out that Wu Chengzu didn’t want his daughter to see him being arrested, so he gave her some medicine.
The police couldn’t help but sigh, no matter how vicious a person, they’re gentle with their own child.
"What about the others? What about Yao Zhiqing?" Wu Chengzu was caught, but Yao Zhiqing, a major criminal, was still on the run.
"That’s what I’m going to tell you next. Yao Zhiqing and her husband Lin Mou showed up at the docks, attempting to escape by boat. Our colleagues who were staking out the place discovered them, and both were shot dead while resisting arrest."
Yao Zhiqing and Da Lin knew that the police were lying in wait at the docks, yet they still tried their luck. In the end, their luck had run out before, and last night was their last night on this earth.
After hanging up on Gao Sheng, Bai Yiran had just come out of the nursery after feeding Xiao Xi. Seeing the strange expression on Leng Yichen’s face, she asked, "What’s wrong?"
"Wu Chengzu has been captured, and Yao Zhiqing and her husband were shot dead by the police last night." Leng Yichen conveyed the news from Gao Sheng to Bai Yiran, quietly watching her reaction. Some things she had to process herself, after all, Yao Zhiqing had once been her teacher.
Hearing this, Bai Yiran’s mind went blank for a few seconds before she took a deep breath, "I see."
"Wu Jingjing is already in government care."
Bai Yiran nodded, walked forward a few steps, then turned back and hugged Leng Yichen tightly, tears falling, "Is everything finally over?"
Leng Yichen embraced her, feeling the emotions, "It’s over, all over."
Xiao Lang came out of the room with sleepy eyes and saw his parents hugging in the living room, covering his mouth with a giggle, "Mom and Dad are being shy!"
