A few of the males stayed behind to watch the cubs, while the others went ashore and started a bonfire to grill fish.

The winter fish were exceptionally fresh, tender, and smooth; even eating them raw had a unique flavor. However, Si Shuo still preferred cooked food. She fried some fish in lard, then put it in a pot to simmer. With just a simple addition of some wild onions and ginger, the fish soup became incredibly savory and fragrant. It even made the males who didn’t normally like fish or shrimp gulp down two extra bowls.

Pan-fried fish, deep-fried fish, steamed fish, fish soup, braised fish, and grilled fish—they went ahead and had a full-blown fish feast!

The leftover fish were stored away by Xu Chi and Si Shuo.
