Chapter 490: Uncensored update
Chapter 490: Uncensored update
"Suspicious?" Jia quickly clarified. "No, no, Aunt. It’s nothing like that. Just a birthday gift?"Yang Bingqing pouted. "So it’s just a birthday gift?"
"I mean...it’s his birthday so..."
"So nothing special? Hm? Hm? Like something super extra special?"
Jia could practically see a pair of fox ears pop on her head, perked up to their fullest potential. She wasn’t sure how to answer that question.
But she was aware that it would indeed be a special day. Now that something more had definitely blossomed between them, Mingshen’s birthday was more than just a birthday for her. It was the first special event for him.
"I am thinking about that."
Yang Bingqing radiated sunshine across the store.
Oh my, oh my what is this I am hearing?
She coughed. "I mean Mingshen has helped me a lot and well...he is...not that of a bad person."
Her hand flew to her mouth, tears flooding her eyes. "I cannot believe this...t-that a day would come when a woman would call my son not a bad person, meaning he is a good man! As a mother, I cannot be happier...This blessed day has finally arrived."
Just now much Mingshen has traumatized her?
"A-anyway, I do want to give him something special, but it’s quite hard..." she felt embarrassed. "Mingshen doesn’t lack anything, so it’s difficult to think about a meaningful gift."
"Aish! You don’t need to worry about that at all! Don’t you see how much he cherishes the red tie you gave him? It’s not like he lacks ties, but it’s special to him because it’s from you. No matter what you give him, he will surely pray to it like a God’s blessing."
"..."
"No, not that far of a sentiment...Do you think this suit would look good on him?"
She harrumphed. "It’s very frustrating but he is one good-looking man. All thanks to my Cheng’s genes! He will cry even if you give him a handkerchief."
Jia laughed.
"He will cry harder if you wrap yourself as a present for him~"
"..."
Why!? Just why does everyone’s brain possess the same track record!?
"That’s impossible, Aunt."
She pouted. "It’s definitely unconventional and special though."
Jia struggled to smile. "Let’s...try to find some other options first."
And so they did but Jia didn’t find any appealing options. Not that they wouldn’t suit Mingshen, but it lacked the X-factor she was looking for.
Ahh! It’s so hard deciding a gift.
At the end of the day, her straight shoulders dropped with despair. Hardly three days were left and she had nothing at her disposal.
Would I really need to wrap myself as a present? Her brow twitched.
Yang Bingqing noticed her gloom and laughed. "Don’t let it pull you down, dear~ Gift-searching should be fun~ As long as it comes from your heart, Mingshen will love it."
Her genuine words rejuvenated her flames out spark. "Thank you Aunt!"
"Hoho I am always here for you~"
"Ah! Thief! Thief! Somebody catch him!"
The commotion drew their attention and they saw a man sprinting towards them with a bag tucked under his arm.
Ah, I cannot have a single day’s rest huh...
Jia blocked his way and simply held her cop badge at his line of sight. It incited a panicked reaction and he was about to take a turn in the other direction when Jia’s silent but chilly warning sent a shiver down his spine.
Seriously, don’t make me chase you.
He nearly stumbled with that threat but chose to act stupid anyway.
Jia dragged out a sigh. "Haaah. Aunt, please wait here-"
"Yikes!"
The thief stumbled forward as a bag came flying at his feet. He fell face down against the concrete floor. Jia turned, surprised, only to see that one of their own shopping bags was sacrificed for this noble cause - Yang Bingqing being the mastermind behind it.
"Oops. It’s so windy today~"
Is it really windy or is your aim truly that good?
She just sheepishly stuck out her tongue.
Jia went ahead and arrested the thief. "Seriously, you had to act stupid."
"I had nearly lost you!" The thief glared.
"Dude, an assassin and a cop were right before you. Did you really think you had a chance to escape?" She snorted.
Two patrol officers passed by and they quickly took his custody.
"Sorry, that happened..." Jia said awkwardly.
"Oh that’s all right dear~ It was fun. Got to know I haven’t lost my edge with my targets~"
She coughed. "True. That was one graceful aim."
"Hohoho~ Let’s go. I’m starving! Let’s have some pizza! Don’t tell Cheng though."
Jia laughed. "Definitely not. It will be our secret."
—
"I smell a secret," Mingshen’s eyes narrowed.
Yang Bingqing and Jia, having just returned home, were immediately targeted my Mingshen’s interrogation.
"Women have many secrets," Yang Bingqing snorted. "You will never understand a woman’s heart."
He raised a brow. "What did you two eat outside?"
"Stop poking into women’s affairs," she glared. "It’s unfitting of you."
He sneered. Then he rose and hugged his mother. "That’s alright, Mom. You are forgiven because you made me quite happy."
Mingshen unlocked his phone and quite shamelessly, held Jia’s backless picture on display as his phone’s wallpaper.
"Hey!" Jia was dumbfounded. "Why have you kept it as your wallpaper! Remove it right now!"
"These are exactly the kind of pictures I want as my wallpapers, Spicy~ A treat to the eyes."
She glared. "You won’t be getting any gift if you don’t take that down."
"Hmmm. That’s a serious choice. But I will take the risk. Backless Spicy over anything else~"
"..."
Jia attempted to snatch his phone but she was quite out of reach given the devil’s tall height.
By then, Bojing too had returned, though a little despondent.
Mingshen asked, still holding his phone away from Jia’s grasp. "What happened to you? It was date night, isn’t it?"
He jolted. "I-It went well...!"
"The tears in your eyes speak another story. Think twice before lying to me."
Jia slightly frowned. "Is everything alright?"
Bojing quickly said, "Y-Yes, yes sis! Everything is fine! We had a g-great date..!"
"Well if you say so..."
Bojing escaped upstairs at the first chance he got.
Yang Bingqing sighed. "That boy is definitely hiding something. Did they fight perhaps?"
"Fight? And that crybaby?" Mingshen rolled his eyes. "Good joke."
"Well...let’s see how it goes for now. I won’t stay quiet if my precious Bojing is depressed for too long," she pouted.
"What about me, Mom?"
She beamed, subtly eyeing Jia. "I don’t need to hold you precious anymore because someone else has taken over this noble task, am I not right?"
Mingshen looked down at Jia, raising an eyebrow. He slowly lowered his hwad. "Mhhmm? Is that true now? Am I precious for a certain person?"
Jia’s gaze alternated between the mother and son, glowing with a distinct happiness.
"I-I don’t know what you are talking about.. Anyway! I will head back to my room. Good night!"
Like Bojing, Jia, too, sprinted away like a top racer.
Yang Bingqing approached her son and coughed. "*Ahem*"
Mingshen glanced at her.
"Soooooo, what’s the real deal between A and B?"
"A and B?"
She simply gave him a meaningful stare.
"Aaah. So you knew who I was talking about then."
Her brow twitched. "I feel offended you judging my intelligence. Sooo, what’s up? Have you..." she looked at him with a sparkling hope.
Confessed? Tell me, tell me!
He shrugged. "A and B have slept together."
Yang Bingqing puked three liters of blood. "WHAT!!??"
