Chapter 489: Blessings from a backless dress
Chapter 489: Blessings from a backless dress
The shopping trip felt endless to Jia. Bags upon bags kept piling up, money upon money kept getting debited from the card and with every purchase, anxiety upon anxiety kept bubbling up within Jia."Au-Aunt, I think much is enough..."
Yang Bingqing turned and blinked, puzzled. "What do you mean is enough? We haven’t even visited half of the apparel stores! New collections are waiting for us!"
She was dumbfounded. "You are carrying bags in both of your hands. Me too."
"We don’t have to be so modest, dear~ Money just..flows in the family," she shone, her zealous light nearly blinding Jia.
First Mingshen, now Aunt...they love to splurge so much! It bleeds my heart to see the debit column growing like a mountain!
In one of the stores Jia had lost count of, Yang Bingqing stuffed a number of dresses in her arms.
"Try them! Everything will look so good on you! Oh, oh! Let me take a look at matching jewelery~"
So Jia was forced into the trial room yet again. She slipped into a dress that had quite the deep cut at the back. The breeze from the air conditioning passed a chill along her back.
"This is too..." she coughed.
She stepped out for Yang Bingqing’s opinion - which she genuinely prayed that it would appeal to the side of rejecting this dress. But as she was about to call her out, she caught Yang Bingqing’s gaze drifting into the distance as though she was in a trance.
A pair of mother and daughter in the distance were going through their own shopping checklist. The young girl would have barely crossed her twenties. The mother was seriously contemplating between selecting two pendant chains for her daughter. The daughter was glued to her phone the entire time and time and again, the mother would slap her attention back to the important matter at hand - a matter at which the daughter would roll her eyes.
"Pick any pendant, Mom. They are both pretty."
"You don’t understand anything!" She harrumphed. "There are so many things to consider. Selecting classy jewelry is not an easy task."
The daughter released a sigh.
Yang Bingqing’s eyes held a glaze over them. Jia could envision it - Yang Bingqing imagining herself in the mother’s place and in the daughter’s place...
Having a daughter was a joy on its own. Raising a daughter was as enjoyable as raising a son. Different challenges, different fun, different bonds. Yet at the end of the day, it was nothing but her envious dream of hers. It was that clouded gaze that sent a crushing weight down upon Jia’s heart.
She looked back at the plethora of shopping bags in silence and bit her lip once. She then turned to Yang Bingqing, the gloom in her eyes evaporating.
"Aunt, how do I look?"
Yang Bingqing stirred from her daze and realized she had been staring for far too long. She quickly gathered her momentum, the bright smile returning to her lips. They then parted into a gasp, studying Jia from head to toe.
"Oh my God...you look so perfect!"
"Thank you," she said awkwardly.
"Anf sexy!"
"..."
"Oh, yes, yes, the matching jewelry!"
"A-Aunt that’s a little-"
"Of course, it is important!" She waved her hand. "You are like my daughter, after all. Actually, I would like to adopt you and dump my idiot son," she frowned. "He doesn’t respect me at all! Daughters are so filial," she sniffled.
After adorning the jewelry, Yang Bingqing thought she would faint.
"Aiyaaa, my Jia is so pretty!" Stars glittered across her features. "Oh, oh, I know!"
She grabbed her phone and took several quick pictures of her. Jia posed with an awkward smile all along.
"Please just keep the pictures to yourself..."
Yang Bingqing looked up and blinked. "But I already sent it to Mingshen."
"..."
Why...!!??
Jia wished she could dig a hole. One of the pictures was a side angle, revealing her deep cut of the back.
Yang Bingqing’s eyes narrowed. "I am sure Mingshen would appreciate these. But why do you look so tense? Are you perhaps...blushing by any chance?"
She stiffened, then let out a cough.
"Of course not, Aunt. Wh-why would I blush? You know how Mingshen is. He will start teasing me endlessly."
"Huuuuhhh..." her eyes squinted further.
A message popped on her screen that came from none other than her very son.
’Is this your doing? If yes, then I love you, Mom. I don’t think I give you enough credit. This is going as my wallpaper.’
Her lips parted in a gasp.
My son actually spoke to me with decency and respect!
And he’s putting Jia’s picture as his wallpaper! It totally confirms something is up!
Hehehe~ By the end of this shopping trip, I will make Jia confess the truth by hook or by crook.
Jia didn’t know why but a villainous, scheming smile curled on Yang Bingqing’s lips.
Why is she looking like that?
As they continued picking more stuff along the way - Yang Bingqing more than anyone else - Jia found the men’s apparel section in the distance.
Huh...
Jia glanced at Yang Bingqing, busy sorting out dresses. So she casually walked into the men’s section, eyes scanning past the high-end, luxurious suits and shirts. The price tag alone made her eyes bleed red, but she was determined.
I think I can afford something expensive this time...she coughed. Goodbye my savings.
Jia stood before the suits section, her fingers grazing past a classy black suit. She imagined Mingshen wearing it and concluded it would look quite handsome in him. She imagined a few other suits like this - all turning out to be handsome options.
Damn, is Mingshen’s aura so unbeatable that he looks good in everything?
"Are you looking for Mingshen’s birthday gift?" A slow, quiet voice eerily whispered in her ear.
"Ahh!"
Jia let out a gasp and turned, seeing Yang Bingqing already crept right behind her.
"Au-Aunt..." she breathed out.
That felt like a ghost whispering to me..!
Something in her eyes quickened Hai’s heartbeats further.
"So you are looking for a gift for Mingshen huh. This smells...suspicious."
