Chapter 1249: Jose Floyd Is Getting Engaged
Chapter 1249: Jose Floyd Is Getting Engaged
Nico Haynes took a swig of his drink, looking all lazy and carefree. "On your wedding day, remember? You asked me to see her home. She left a number, and then we just started talking.""Your speed at chasing girls is honestly impressive." Ariel Morris laughed.
"I still haven’t gotten the girl, okay! Little Girl Morris, stop gloating!"
"Oh, that so!" Ariel laughed even more happily, raised her glass and whooped, "Come on, let’s drink to Third Haynes who’s been walking the night roads for years and finally tripped into a mud pit! Congrats, his luck has finally turned and he got rejected for once!"
"I’m with Ariel on this one." Dawn Sutherland was the first to raise his glass in support.
"This toast I have to join! Third Haynes finally took a dive, hahahaha—" Nicole Seys raised her glass to clink as well.
For his wife’s sake, Arlo Seys definitely chose to play along, very disloyally laughing at his own buddy.
Daisy Grant looked at Nico with a smile. "I’d better not fall behind then. Come on, let’s all down this one. Cheers to Young Master Haynes finally falling flat on his face! May he actually win the beauty in the end and have a little girl soon. That way our childhood engagement pool gets a new member. Ryan and Finley are still short of wives. These days the guys outnumber the girls, you gotta lock things in early."
"Great idea!" Ariel was the first to echo.
Nico looked at the two women who’d shot one rank above him the second they got married. "My two sisters-in-law, could you maybe be a little kinder?"
Ariel’s eyes, full of quiet longing, rested on the three kids being fussed over by Aunt Forest. "Someday City C will belong to Ryan, Finley and their generation. You three young masters’ heirs—who knows how high they’ll climb."
Dawn’s gaze landed on his son Finley, and he smiled. "All I hope is that Finley’s road in love will go smoother than mine and Daisy’s. No unspoken love, no wasting years apart when you could have been together."
Daisy gave Dawn a gentle, tender smile.
Ariel looked over at Arlo with a laugh. "All I hope is that in the place where our love took root—Scenic Hill High School—when Ryan and Iris retrace the paths we walked when we were young, they can meet their true love again and keep this deep feeling going."
Nico took a swallow of liquor, his gaze on the three children a bit deep, though his face wore that same devil-may-care grin. He slapped the table, arched a brow and said, "Nicole, when they start shoving their lovey-dovey crap in our faces, we’ll just form a temporary alliance, yeah? Otherwise every time we get together it’s force-feeding us dog food. Completely unbearable!"
Nicole was still smiling and hadn’t replied when Ariel shot Nico a contemptuous look. "Don’t you drag Nicole down with you. The engagement between the Seys and Cooper families is already on the agenda; it’ll be set in the coming days. You’d better think about how to win over Anaya Campbell instead!"
Nico froze for a moment. "I’m a guy who has everything—good looks, great height, dazzling background—and you think I still can’t win over Anaya Campbell? What a joke!"
Ariel gave him a calm, composed smile, her voice mild but laced with doubt. "If she loved all that, would you still not have gotten her by now? It’s been six months, my dear Third Young Master. The girl’s been unmoved for half a year and hasn’t even given you the title of ’boyfriend’."
"Quit stabbing at my heart!" Nico jumped to his feet, then turned to Nicole, who was smiling faintly, and raised his glass in a toast. "Congrats, Little Sister Seys, you’re finally getting married! Steven Cooper’s solid—at least in all my years running with the rich boys in high society, I’ve never heard a whiff of scandal about him. He’s a good man. If he climbs fast in the future and winds up in the top seat, he’d better look after us poor big brothers slogging it out in business!"
"When it comes to playing the victim, I only bow to Third." Dawn laughed. "Young Master Haynes needing someone else to take care of him—just that alone makes you deserve all the shade."
Nicole ate her food with a faint smile, calm and collected about everything.
